It is officially ‘Chaos Week’

It is officially ‘Chaos Week’

In exactly 7 days I’m starting my journey towards Central America. My good friends Miranda and Ruud will be dropping me off at the airport Schiphol and then I’ll be on my way to Costa-Rica. The journey door-to-door will be just under 24 hours, a serious day of travelling! I’ll be spending 2,5 months total in Costa-Rica and after that, I’ll be briefly home for just over a week to then leave again for Hawaii. So needless to say this week is all about preparations, like I wrote in my…

Visiting sunny Doncaster.

Visiting sunny Doncaster.

This week I managed to squeeze in a quick visit to Doncaster. Yes, you heard that right Doncaster. Okay, it’s not a tropical island, but in fairness it wasn’t bad at all! The weather was great, the people were friendly, good food and really nice surroundings. Online in-real-life Meetings A long long time ago, I was actively playing an online game. Through this game I had the opportunity to get to know a lot of great people. I was 16 when I got involved with the online community and when…

The bloody V&D Massacre

The bloody V&D Massacre

The Economic Valentines Day Massacre V&D used to be the biggest warehouse chain (62 stores) in The Netherlands, until they went bankrupt on the 31st of December 2015. The stores remained open whilst hoping for a relaunch. Sadly, this relaunch never came and they had to close their doors indefinitely on the 14th of February. There were entrepreneurs interested, one specific, but financially the banks didn’t have enough faith in the entire operation to give it another go. So another Valentines Day Massacre, except this time in The Netherlands and not…

Travel preparations (Time to panic!!!)

Travel preparations (Time to panic!!!)

So I booked my flight to Costa-Rica! I’m arriving at Playa del Coco in less than 25 days. Time to panic! Time for travel preparations! Anyone who slightly knows me, knows I work best under stress and in chaos. I’m one of those people that can get the best results last-minute, which drives my friends crazy sometimes. But this time things are different, I’m leaving for 75 days to Costa-Rica and then come home for like 10 days to then set off again first to New York and then to Hawaii…

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)

Last week I finished my TEFL-Online course. TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Native and non-native speakers can follow the course to become certified English teachers. Note that it only applies to teaching students who are non-native speakers. I.e. you most likely won’t be able to teach in countries such as the United States, Australia, England etc. Right now, I do not have any concrete plans to use my TEFL-diploma. The reason I started studying TEFL was because I wanted to just have another “get out to…

I’m on a boat!

My first blog post as Dutch Mermaid written on a boat, it couldn’t be more fitting. Well I guess it could be… from the bottom of the ocean… Sorry to disappoint! For months I’ve been playing with the idea to start blogging. But where do I start? With many big travel plans coming up I figured there is no better time to start then right now. The boat I am on is driving to Terschelling. One of the Dutch Isles. So right now I’m still in The Netherlands. I’ll be…
